Our Environmental Policy
The protection of the environment is central to our approach. In Australia, any mobile devices received by Fonebank that are not working and beyond economic repair are recycled according to Australian environmental guidelines.
We adhere to the environmental principles detailed in the Environmental Management System (EMS of our parent company (CMR) and are working towards accreditation of ISO 14001 and EMAS initiatives. CMR was awarded full certification for both schemes in October 2003. We use this internal EMS so that customers, regulators and the wider community have full confidence in our stewardship of mobile handsets and peripherals.
CMR have worked hard for the environment, and over the past two years has recycled in excess of 700,000 mobile phones which might otherwise have ended up in landfill site.
Whilst we acknowledge the business benefits of our ‘greener’ outlook we must also state that the work involved in maintaining these high standards means that our environmental approach genuinely determines the direction of the company and cannot be dismissed as a ‘here today gone tomorrow’ publicity stunt. Our Environmental Management System calls for significant and continuous investment in terms of time, money, enthusiasm and perhaps most importantly dedication to the underlying improvement of the environment around us.
